What a wonderful summer day drive. The weather couldn't be more perfect. The sun was up and the road was hot, and the car is very hot. The road just doesn't want to end, so is the smile on my face. It is
good to be in a carbureted car again. Nothing sounds more familiar to me than the hum of a perfectly tuned 911 RS engine.
I picked up the car and filled it up with 94 octane, making sure that
this car has the right juice for the work out I am about to put it
through. Like an athlete with their Gatorade to get them through their
long and hard work out, your engine needs the best fluid too. Anything
less and you would be committing a sin. If the petrol station sells
higher octane, bet on the fact that I will get the highest possible.
Next, check the dip stick to make sure
the oil is clean and filled to the right amount. Since this is an air
cooled 911, one would definitely make sure that the oil is properly
maintained. You would be considered a dip stick if you do not check
your oil. To top it all off, I also filled it with a bottle of
carburetor cleaner.
Off I go to
pick up the photographer (Michael Liew) for this photo shoot. When I pulled up, he was quick to jump in. I felt like we were in a get away car after a heist, the way we dashed off into our joy ride.

The Carrera RS - "Renn Sport" (racing sport) is a no frills vehicle,
qualifying it as a driver's car in the highest order. It does not come
with an air conditioning system, which would be sapping power from this
wonderful engine and rear seating is also not included. No cruise
control, no power adjustment for the outside mirrors, minimal sound
deadening insulation and no rear window wipers. The doors does not have
an armrest and you have only a primitive draw strap as a door opener.
You can also count on the fact that the windows on the side requires
manual winding. Stereo is also an option, but who needs a stereo when
you have an engine that bellows such melodies that can move your soul.
Overall, the interior is as spartan as a priest's cell. All these
deletions help cuts down the weight of the car. We all know that weight
is the biggest enemy for any performance vehicle.
We were off on the sea to sky highway. I had to drive responsible in
the city, but the second we were on the highway, it is a sure big money
bet that I was going to stretch this baby's legs. It is a long
climb right after the Iron Workers Memorial bridge, and I couldn't
believe how easy it was for this car to get up to speed. For those who
does the Grouse Grind (local mountain hike in North Vancouver, Canada),
you can relate it to those hikers who can do it in 30 minutes. The car
feels like a very fit runner. Don't forget, I am in a 230 hp, 2000 lb
slingshot capable of catapulting its crew to 60 mph in five and a half
seconds.
The
Porsche 911 is infamous for its third gear, known as its
passing gear. Man, does it feel good when I punched it forward
from second to third. Instantaneously, I could sense the
car was drilling a hole in the atmosphere. There is a very
long straight away, I just couldn't believe this little
car was just munching away at the asphalt. About this time,
Michael asked me "where the hell is the Holy S**T bar"
(overhead handle). Before you know it, I am at Horseshoe
Bay. And I haven't had the chance to get it over 4000
rpm!
Brain in check, I had to make sure I was in the right frame of mind to drive a rear engine car again. I had to remind myself that I am about to tango with a woman with a heavy ass. The sea to sky highway is a big dance floor and the Carrera RS was all business. Imagine yourself dancing with a
Jamaican mama with a big booty (they are famous for appearing in MTV's Hip Hop videos, clad in their spandex outfits), if you do not know how to lead her, she will end up leading you. And
if she does, you are in big trouble. Now everyone knows that the tricky part about doing the tango is getting in and out of corners.
